Define the primary user and goal

Write down who will use the app and the main outcome they should reach. If there are multiple user types, clarify how permissions or journeys differ.

  • Who is the primary user?
  • What is the most important task in the app?
  • What should happen after that task is completed?
  • Are there different roles such as user, admin, or provider?

Map the journey before the screens

Arrange the steps from opening the app to completing the core task. A clear journey reveals which screens are necessary and which ideas can wait.

Define the data the app needs

Accounts, orders, files, and notifications are not only interface elements. Each requires data, states, and permissions. Define what must be stored and who can view or change it.

Clarify integrations early

If the app needs payments, maps, messaging, authentication, or an external API, identify those services before scope is fixed because availability and provider rules affect delivery and testing.

Start with a first version that has clear value

The first release does not need every possible idea. Choose the smallest scope that lets users complete the core journey reliably, then expand from real usage signals.
